It's so hard to say goodbye...

Getting ready to head off to the great white Rockies (aka camping). I'm not usually the type to miss electricity, but since I started blogging, I'm going to come home to about a million e-mails (not that I mind :)).

My last day of LITing today. It rained, so we watched 'Eight Below'. I thought it'd be a cheesy kids movie, but you know what? NEVER watch this movie. The only thing that kept me from weeping was the staff's funny commentary (which they were saying to keep them from crying). Anyway, just don't watch it :p
We're going camping from Saturday to Monday, which I find unfortunate because it means that I miss a whole day of hanging out at the park (how many games of President could you play in 24 hours? Hmmm...). I guess I'll just be there bright and early on Tuesday (but not as an LIT, haha!).

So, I shall leave you for the weekend with these "wonderful" photos of my t-shirt "collection" (it's not yet a collection, I know).

Anyway, see ya Monday!

My 100th post!!!

Party! It seems like I've covered a lot of ground on this here blog... or you know, maybe not. At least I've made a ton of awesome friends :)
I was joking around with my sister today about how I'm a 'blogger addict', but she can't help me until I'm ready to change. I know I'll keep up with it, though. It's really a good way to let out anger and de-stress, without being violent :p

---We now return you to regular programming---
Nic, you are crazed. I have never known anyone to win at president that many times, or with such crap hands. I stand in awe of your card playing abilities.
So today was a good LIT day. Nic made me vice president three times in a row (with the worst hands possible) until our teenage combined card forces were deemed unfair for the small children. C'est dommage.
Although, there was a group of druggies at the park, and the staff had to call the police, as they wouldn't leave. A certain party wanted to intimidate them with a baseball bat (or a broom), but we decided that wouldn't be the best idea. But it did make the day a bit more exciting.
Tomorrow's my last official LIT day at the park, but I plan on hanging out there anyway. That way I can hang out with all the kids I made friends with, but I'll be able to leave at will... cheer!
Anyway, gotta get going, see ya!

The Secret Man: a book review... or not

I've been putting this off for a long time, so I'll make it crappy, short and sweet. Read the book (The Secret Man: The Story Of Watergate's Deep Throat by Bob Woodward) if you like the following:
-Watergate
-Politics
-Journalism
-Modern history
-Conspiracy theories
-Basically anything I like (see above :p)
Got it? Good. (See, I wrote a really long post about this before, but it was really cheesy sounding, so I figured this would work better. But truthfully, it's one of my favorite books.)

I'm singing in the rain!

Yes, David, your suggestion of singing instead of complaining about walking in the rain kinda worked. I just had that song stuck in my head the whole way home! Argh.

Today was wet. There, my day in three words. It rained most of the day, so we went to the rain out shelter (which is so well placed, five blocks away).
My nice shorts got ripped when I hopped a fence during lunch, so I had to go home to get changed (but at home was my new Feist shirt that had just been delivered. Yay! Now I have a Feist and a Daily Show shirt... that fills my cool shirt quota for the year :p).
Later a weather watch was put out, so because it was "severe weather" (a thunderstorm), they sent us all home in the worst of it. Real smart. No one was home when I got there, so I had to stand out in the rain for ten minutes, only to find out, when my dad came home from looking for me (awww... a gesture I do appreciate :)) that the back door had been open the whole time. Oh well.

The day wasn't all bad, though. Nic attempted to teach me how to play 'Magic' (which I still don't understand). Hmmm... I think that's about it, but it makes up for everything else :)

I liked yesterday's weather better. It was sunny and raining at the same time. Much more fun.

Arcade Fire always puts it best

"Somethin’ filled up my heart with nothin’,
someone told me not to cry.
But now that I’m older,
my heart’s colder,
and I can see that it’s a lie."
That's my general lookout on everything right now :)

Georgie, Georgie, what are you doing to me?!

I found this pic on Google, and my heart melted... this is the George I first fell for (sans nose ring). Tear. Look at that smile, those shining eyes. Sigh.

Listening to The Strombo Show right now.
George said that he decided to take out his nose ring before he met with the people from the show because he's "frickin 34". By the way, he's actually not 34 for 3 1/2 weeks (I know this because his birthday is just before mine), but hey, technicalities.) I am seriously considering getting a nose ring in protest (ok, maybe not. I'll wait a couple of years)...
Oh dear, Jim Richards is talking about Bob's wife. Funny stuff.
Poor Georgie, standing in Mexico for 4 1/2 hours to get his Visa endorsed... ouch.
C'est Dommage, George and Bob live time is over. Oh well, it's probably for the best, you wouldn't want me summing up two hours of radio for you.

I set up my hammock in my backyard yesterday, I've basically spent my last two days out there. I'm getting that sun kissed glow on my legs... and guess what? It's not from a bottle! Hah! It's been in the mid-30's here lately, torture. Apparently the LRT (our subway) stopped working yesterday. That's heat.

I keep on wanting to comment on the show, but since they're repeats I've probably already have way back when. My mom and I love the clip where George talks to his mom and finds out that she once prayed for his music tapes stolen (which they then were)... hilarious stuff! We really hope he plays it again...

Ok, typing on the computer is making me overheat even more (it's a laptop), and I wish to sit back and relax. I want you to, too. Now, take your hands off the keyboard and sit back. Now. Good.
Anyway, see ya!

A lot of rambling about my summer life

Ok, so I caved in. I got a MySpace account and even set up an ok looking profile page.
But then I realized that it wasn't really something that I actually wanted to take part in. Like when I got a video iPod, and then returned it for a less common Samsung MP3 player... I'm strange like that. Anyway, I like blogger!
It's been really hot here lately. Yesterday I had to leave LITing early because I was feeling really sick. I think it was because I got too much sun... yuck. I ended up at my Aunt's house (she was the only one home), and after an hour of sleeping on her couch I felt much better.
She took me to the library (someplace relaxing, she explained), where I got Bob Woodward's 'Secret Man', all about Deep Throat. It's an awesome book (I'm about a third through it), I'll write more about it in another post...
We also found Whyte ave is also very relaxing (teehee)...
So, I'd better get going. Thought I'd just fill you in on the past couple of days in Becky-land!

Ah, the good old days!

Ok, so to consider Barbara B's feelings (and my sanity), this post is just a little bit about The One. I just wanted to show you something that I found while deleting all the stupid spam I got just now (therefore the word verification, please forgive me!)...

"George was once asked by a fan if he would replace Anderson if say god forbid Anderson died or something and George said in effect. No. He would not work for CNN or any American Station for that matter. he would rather work in the UK."

That was a comment Barbara W left on my blog in the beginning of June.
George was asked recently asked if he would replace Larry King, and he said he would, as long as he didn't have to wear suspenders.
Oh, how naive we were... tear.

Ok, so "The One" is crap.

George was just not himself, and that was really upsetting. Whatever for it not being the same as Idol, the only difference I could spot was the fact that the judges were nicer.
I only watched 5 minutes, that's all I could stand. And don't go giving me that "you didn't give it a chance" crap. It's not my thing... at all.
I didn't and don't watch Much for a reason. I watched George on CBC. I don't plan on watching too much ABC any day soon either.
And George in a suit, come one! Sell out. I don't care if it was some "career choice" thing. If I ever get that famous, I don't care how much money I'm making, I'll never do that. Not to all the kids who look up to me as someone they can trust, someone they can relate to, someone that they know can make them smile when they went through a really horrible day.
Ok, so I'll probably never be to kids what George was to me, but at least I'm willing to try, and at least I won't do something stupid like getting up in front of a bunch of screaming Americans who can't even pronounce my name, much less know what I do in Canada.
Anyway, I got really upset when I saw him... as I still am now (can you tell?).

So there it is. My vent.

Heat + leader who hates me + choking on lunch= not so dandy day.

So started LITing (Leaders In Training-ing) today.
It was really hot out for one, and the oversized thick shirts they gave us didn't help.
The one leader hates me, mostly because most of the time there wasn't anything for us to do (and because she lacked to tell us the expectations/organization/responsibilities (of which LIT's apparently have none)).
And then at lunch (Gill as my witness), I choked on my sandwich, I then attempted to wash it down with juice, which therefore made a juice-sandwich combo come out my nose. It still tastes like I just threw up rotten pizza.
All in all, the best part of my day was the bike ride to the park (and the brief visit with my niece and sister which lasted all of 1 minute).
Hopefully tomorrow will be better!

Elk Island adventures

Today my mother and all my sisters and I (a rare occurrence, since our schedules don't often align), and my niece and my sister's dog went out to Elk Island National park, about 45 minutes out of town. We were lucky it was a weekday, as it wasn't nearly as busy as all the other weekends I'd been there.
We rented a kayak from MEC and took my one sister's ex-boyfriend's canoe (hey, he was the one who left it at her house then moved to Utah), and we went out for a day on the lake.
I've been canoeing many a time before (my sister's are quite the outdoorsy type), but I've only been kayaking once before (avec Gee, Canada Day weekend), and even that was in single kayaks. This was a double, and the steering was just wrong. We all tried it, and even though we criticized others over their steering, it was the worst system ever! Breathe in, breathe out... ok, so it wasn't that bad, but it was designed really poorly. I'll leave it at that.
After all that we had a nice picnic, and we had a fun time teaching my baby niece how to hold a stick in her mouth and crawl around around like a dog, while also performing social experiments on her ("To Gabi, the boundaries of the picnic blanket aren't binding, yet she respects them." (You have to say it with an intellectual English accent).
Yes, I know, my family's strange... teehee.
Anyway, all in all it turned out to be a very nice, and relaxing, day!
By the way, that photo is taken from the beach were we spent the day. Unfortunately it's from Google, as we only had the film camera with us. But it looked exactly the same today (beautiful weather, only a little rain on the way home).
P.S. Sorry for all the brackets and commas and run-on sentences. I'm in a "jam-in-everything-related-to-the-topic" mood today.

This whole thing is giving me a headache.

This is my mini rant on "The One" comment debate.
I have no problem with a debate, but stop assuming you know what's going on in my head! I'm letting you have your opinions, why won't everyone just let me have mine! I'm not going to convert. I was brought up to believe that people hurting each other, mentally or physically, for entertainment is wrong. I've always thought this, I'm not changing it now. If you're allowed to put down my friends over what they think, I should have every right to write back telling you mine. I'm not a snob or a bad friend or whatever you want to call me because of it.

Woohoo! My first journalistic run-in!

Ok, so my older sister is a freelance writer/journalist, writing for a couple of local papers on a regular basis. Anyway, so today she was doing a photo shoot for an article she wrote about all the perfectly good things stores throw away (day old bread, a jacket with a broken pocket zipper, stuff like that), things that could easily be used to help out people who wouldn't otherwise be able to afford it. I tagged along.
So we were behind a local organic food store (who shall remain unnamed), taking photos of all the perfectly good food they had, when the manager came out and asked who we were, gave us heck, etc. The photographer from the paper was a really cool girl. She didn't take any crap from them, she spoke her mind, telling him that it was public property, and that it was perfectly good food that they had just ruined by chucking it (all while taking candid photos from the camera around her neck). Same thing happened at the next store we went to, where they were throwing out a brand new down comforter, just because apparently it wasn't quite up to snuff for their customers (three words: donate to homeless). It disgusts me how these stores can throw away all these things for the littlest reason while there are so many people who have absolutely nothing out there.
So that was my first journalistic run-in... getting pics for a story about wasteful stores for 'ed magazine'. Okay, so it's not so glamourous, but hey, I felt like I was in my fave movie (see below post... nice tie-in, eh?), and it was a blast exposing all the stores for what they really are (insert evil laugh here)! Teehee... I should do that more often...

Just follow the money...

Ok, so I'm listening to 'Raindrops keep falling my head' (Teehee, remember Science class that day, Sheilagh?), which reminds me of 'Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid', which reminds me of Robert Redford, who reminds me of my favorite movie (see how my mind works?).
'All The President's Men', just a little flick about a little incident I like to call Watergate, maybe you've heard of it (don't worry, sarcasm).
When I first saw this movie about three years ago, I loved it. I think it was my first incident of being interested in political history and journalism, too. It kind of paved the way for all my interests today.
Anyway, since I don't have much else to blog about (except for the whole George and "The One", but that goes on Not Paid By The Hour) I thought I'd tell y'all about it.
P.S. That poster hangs in my room.

Classic movies galore!

In the past week I have seen several classics: Forrest Gump, Gone With The Wind and Hair.
Gone with the wind was... uh... cheesy and utterly one-sided (but, then again, that's what it's famous for...). Forrest Gump was, as usual, fantastic (I'm a big fan of Tom Hanks), and Hair was really surreal, but excellent (the scene with all the soldiers (including Berger... tear) marching onto the blackness on the plane was really moving).
Anyway, I thought I'd share that with you... See ya!

In the heat of the day

Happy really belated Canada day!
My July 1st was spent at a piece of land Gill's uncle owns south of the city. In short we went kayaking and enjoyed corner store fireworks (with a couple homemade ones thrown in by a drunk friend of the neighbour's... "I want World War Two in a can dammit!"... Teehee). It was awesome!
Since then I've been hanging out around at home, except today Gill and I went to LIT (Leaders In Training) training. It was really fun, but it was so hot out today. By the end we were all just lying on the ground, waiting to get home.
Anyway, I'm going to pass out on the couch now.
See ya!
