I was talking to a friend of the family recently and was quite enraged. This guy is kind of a local celebrity, in a bizarre way, and is a bit radical in his thoughts, which I have no problems with.
I do, however, have a problem with how he is insensitive in his actions against others with opposing opinions. For example, he and a friend are having a competition to see who can collect the most 'Support Our Troops' car magnets. He said he wants to write 'Support Your Local Insurgents' on them.
What do they think they're doing?
I am definitely not in complete support Canada's involvement in Afghanistan, but I don't think his actions are in any way appropriate. We have a large military base in Edmonton, and how do they know if they're not taking those magnets off the cars of someone who has a friend or family fighting over there? How do they know if that car's family hasn't lost a mother, a brother, a cousin, a best friend?
We live in Canada, everyone here has a right to their own opinion, and no one should have to have that right taken away from them from someone being arrogant and insensitive. It's not our troops' fault that we're over there, nor is it their family's. Not all soldiers support the government's decision, but they're over there anyway. They have to. Our soldiers are a lot braver being over there dying for things they may or may not believe in that this guy is running around in his little bubble ripping off people's opinions.
So here's one for all those he has been such an idiot to, here's one that they can't take away.

Well said Becky.
Its people like that, that make it hard for this discussion to come to a middle ground, they just make everything become more divided.
Thanks :)
Your right, people like that just make thing worse, make everyone more defensive.
I apologize for the crap grammer/spelling, I was pretty irritated when I first typed this, and I didn't really proofread... I think I fixed most of it now.
Good for you to stand up for the families and supporters of the troops Becky. This will prob. backfire on that guy and bring more supporters out in the open to stand up for the troops.
Thanks Barbara :)
Although I'm friends with the guy, I do in a way hope it does backfire, that way he can see all those he is/was hurting.
Good for you Becky. Hopefully he'll put them all smack dab on top of his TV or computer in an absent minded moment.
Yeah, that's a bit crass. Sometimes people just don't think. Or they do, and they don't care.
