SUMMER!!!! (insert happy dance here)

Just got back from getting my hair cut! LOVE it!!! I feel like Feist with my hair all layered with the longer bangs!!! Too bad I got it just after the last day of school, which reminds me...
No more school!!! We just had to pick up report cards today. I'm really happy, because my average was 87.4, and I got 80 in band! 80!!! (Sorry, I suck at band and I'm very happy to get an A in it.)
So last night my friends and I went to a local cafe because a guy we know (well kinda... Gee and I went to school with him for a long time, but we're not "friends" per se, not at all, actually...) was playing there. That was nice...
Anyway, after that all the people from my school went to the park, we hung out and we all got cold. But then Gill had to go home, and I really wanted to leave because all these kids are popular, and well, I'm not, so it was awkward. After I left I went over to my sister's, where we watched The Great Gatsby until about 2 AM.
Gotta love summer vacation!

Jose + Me

Ok, so after seeing Adidas' "Jose +10" World Cup commercials about a million times, I decided that I had to get the song from the second commercial. It's by Jim Noir, it's called Eanie Meany... and it's SO catchy... anyway I'm listening to it now...
Just thought I'd let you know...
Did I mention that it was really hot here today? Well it was, so now I'm all worn out by the heat...
See ya then!
P.S. Yes, I know this post was kind of pointless, but too bad, I had to show my true passion for this music! Too crazed? Ok, I'll stop now.

Hey hey we're the Monkees!

So on the Strombo show last night (along with some very graphic stories, including the one about George and the cleaning lady (shudder)) they had a debate about The Monkees, and their talent as a band. Now I'm a old fan of the TV series (I'm all about retro shows... M*A*S*H, Dragnet, you name it), and admit it, The Monkees are catchy (hey Gill, remember my Mike Nesmith toque? I still have that!)! In fact, I'm listening to the theme song right now... Anywho, Alex ended up just saying "But hey, they're just the Monkees", which made me giggle... teehee!
Had an exam today... fun fun! It actually wasn't that bad, but after getting root beers, my friends and I were walking home, and this idiot girl goes up to my friend and asks a really offensive question (not dirty offensive, but body type offensive)... I still want to scratch her eyes out (not that I'd actually ever do that...)! Anyway... God I hate her! Ok, Becky, breathe...
So after that my friend and I just hung out, watching twenty year old episodes of Family feud, two year old episodes of Millionaire, and new episodes of Lingo... yes, I know, we're pitiful.
This is getting pretty long, I'd better go.
See ya!

The upside to picking up trash

So this summer I'm volunteering at the folk fest here, on the "environment crew" (aka picking up trash). But, there is an upside.
Feist (one of my top 5 musicians of all time) is coming on a Saturday, but all the Saturday passes are sold out. Oh, but what's that I hear? Volunteers can come on any day, regardless of if they're working or not?
Yes, it is true... I get to see Feist!!! Ok, do a happy dance, right now, faster!
Ok, just thought I'd let y'all know of my excitement.

I cried... I'm not kidding.

So we lost. With it Edmonton lost our sense of unity and our hopes and dreams of once again becoming the city of champions.
Tomorrow, all the car flags will have disappeared, all the temporary tattoos wiped off, all the jerseys hung back up. All Edmontonians will once again become strangers, split with a political divide, no longer the strong family we were for these few weeks.
Or will we? Maybe the fans will keep the flags flying, a sign that we will return, show that one loss can take away the Stanley Cup, but it can't take away our passion for our game, can't take away our pride.
I sure hope that that's the path we choose, the path to not be emotionally defeated, but to bounce back, and show that the Hurricanes can blow us down, but they can't stop us from building everything right back up.

Game seven, here we come!!! We'll show the 'canes what we're made of!!!

We are no longer Deadmonton! I have never been prouder to be an Edmontonian!!! Pisani is our hometown hero, and Pronger is just plain cool!
We have made it back to the event that put us on the map. Just watch Wayne! We'll show you and your homeboys (of which we no longer belong) that we are capable of once again being the city of champions!
What other NHL city has banded together in such a way like we have? What other city has car flags every where you look, and graffiti so that the "City of Edmonton" park signs now read "City of Edmonton Oilers"?
No one, and finally Edmonton is no longer "the city North of Calgary", as we have regained our title as hockey giants!
And just to let you know, Pronger's neck is not unusually wide
(an ongoing joke in my family...).

Python in lego...

If you have the DVD of 'Monty Python And The Holy Grail' you know that they have a short version of the film in lego (which, by the, way, is hilarious).
Now a group has recreated other Python sketches in lego (they're just still shots, but they're still pretty cool). For example, here is the fish slappers in lego.
Check them out here:
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=96021

If you can't convince them, confuse them.

That's a Truman quote there (the president, not the Jim Carrey movie). I think that it sums up my personality pretty well.
Sorry that the last post was so short and pointless, but I was in quite a hurry. Anywho, the rising crust pizza was ok, and we did get a wonderful dessert of vanilla-chocolate swirl ice cream and macaroons... tasty!
Hmmm... this might turn into another pointless post. Ok Becky, Focus.
Oh, I finished Persepolis yesterday. I plan to read the sequel as soon as I can (my sister's already read the first one, and my Mom's read both, it's just getting passed along through our family). I tend to like graphic novels, especially Louis Riel's biography by Chester Brown, that was really good, as is Persepolis. I could go into a long rant about how much my family loves Louis Riel (even though he was a wee bit crazy), but then it would turn into one of my infamous rants. I'm too tired to type all that right now!
Better go eat breakfast!
See ya!

Metzamarri, Pizzaria!

I don't even know what that means (well, obviously I know what pizzaria means), but I put it to a tune today, and got it stuck in all my friends' heads.
We're all at my aunt's house right now, my one sister just came home from visiting family in Toronto. Pizza time! My other sisters are either here or coming. Gill's here, too, which is fun!
Ohhh... I just found out it's on of those "rising crust", and not order in... so sad!
Anyway, it's hectic here!!! Family gatherings always are.
See ya later!

Are we angry?

Have you seen this yet? I saw it in 'The Journal', and it made me giggle!

My kitchen smells of wet dog...

So it's been raining like crazy here. I just went out to see the storm, took a few pics, but because of the sucky lighting they didn't turn out so great. But I'll put one on here anyway. I think my street is so nice when it rains... I don't know why, I just do. Especially with the streetlight on...
Anyway, my day was average, but thankfully, nothing bad happened.
I took a quiz at deathforecast.com (Barbara W. had the link on her blog), I found out I am going to live until I'm 84. There you go!
Hawkeye just came in from the rain (he likes sitting on the porch and watching the downpour), and now my kitchen smells of wet dog...
I'd better go and change into some dryer clothes...
See ya!

Reason number 126 why the military scares me...

I forgot to mention earlier, of this bizarre happening that took place just before lunch time today.
We were outside playing baseball during gym, and suddenly we hear this low rumble. Our school is in between the two airports in Edmonton, so we’re used to the sight of planes flying over head. But this plane was one of those huge military planes, the kind you see on the news bringing bodies home (my dad (who grew up in a military family) has just informed me that it was a Hercules). We all stopped and stared as it flew (really quite low) overhead. We just stared as it headed toward downtown, amazed at how quiet the engine was (we could only hear it as it was directly overhead).
The freaky thing is is that we’ve been getting a lot of military planes (none like that, though) around our school lately, and when I told my sister about it, she said that she saw fighter jets flying in formation around Whyte Ave the other day. Obviously they have nothing to do with Edmontonian civilians (as we have a big military base here), but it’s kind of freaky that we can finally feel the affects of being at war here at home.
Just thought I’d share that with you.

We'll be getting a visit from the police right about... now.

You should have heard us yell when Pisani scored in overtime! We were SO excited, and I think we freaked out the neighbour! I phoned Gill screaming (she always phones me after goals), and we talked for about five minutes, just going "I KNOW!!!"! Fun times, fun times!
We brought up our old table hockey game (Wayne Gretzky official edition) from the basement, and played in intermissions (I beat her 9-0! Evil laugh!). I know, I'm a hypocrite, playing Gretzky games, when I insist we aren't his homeboys, but come on. I grew up with him as an Edmontonian idol, and I didn't figure out until I was about 12 that Gretzky's Stanley Cups were won before I was born (I just thought I was very little at the time). It was always ingrained into the Edmontonian "culture", if you will (I mean, our slogan is "City Of Champions"!).
Anyway... WE WON!!!
GO OILERS GO!!!
Anyway, better be going!
I want to post about a plane we saw at lunch, that I forgot to write earlier, so I'll do that in a few minutes.
See ya!

I promise I will, I really do!

I promise I'll blog tomorrow, just The Strombo Show was on last night, and then the game was on tonight, and then I had all the homework that the teachers are frantically giving us before the end of the year...
Ok, better go. (I need sleep!)
See ya!

Are people suddenly incapable of writing funny books?!

The book I'm reading right now ('The Year Of Secret Assignments'), is very depressing. Sure, it was all happy-go-lucky and funny in the beginning, but then the author has to go and make everyone be depressed, or become suicidal, or die. It was good until page 153, the it just got bleak and gloomy. Well, I guess I'll finish it, but the next book I read had better be very funny.
Anyway, I've just been hanging out at home all morning.
We did end up having pizza last night... perhaps there is some frozen pizza still in the fridge?
I'd better go check that out...
See ya!

Saturday, June 10, 2006

Just got to have faith a little in them, that's all...

We won!!! 2-1! I wonder if there's going to be partying Whyte Ave tonight, as it's raining right now.
I'm about sixty-some pages into 'The Year Of Secret Assignments'... at parts it's laugh out loud funny, which is a nice change from Anderson Cooper's book. Don't get me wrong, though, that book goes on my favorite books list for sure!
Better be going... I was just talking to Gill on MSN/Skype for quite awhile, and my eyes are sore from staring at the screen.
See ya!
P.S. Gill knows this stray cat, she named him Twigs, and every time she sees him on a game night we win! Let's hope she sees a lot of him in the coming days!

The fugitive: Becky edition

Ok, so I wasn't a fugitive. I just went to my sisters' house to cool off after my mom and I got in a fight yesterday evening. My parents knew where I was, so it wasn't like they thought I was kidnapped or anything... but we're all good now.
Today, my sister, my mom and I walked downtown to the library/farmer's market there (the one in old Scona is MUCH better). I got a funny looking book called 'The Year Of Secret Assignments' (I finished 'Dispatches From The Edge on Tuesday), and Arcade Fire's Funeral CD. It's really good, but whenever I listen to 'Wake Up', I keep on expecting to hear George start talking! (he always plays it at the beginning of the second hour of 'The Strombo Show'.)
Thanks to everyone who cheered me up yesterday... sorry if I sounded a little foolish, it's always the little things put together that really get me down. But as Barbara B said, you just got to "put it to bed and make tomorrow a fresh start." Thanks Barbara, that really kind of snapped me out of the bad mood I was in. Having blogging buddies is always healthy, all the comments/e-mails I got yesterday made me feel better... just wanted to let you know how happy I am to have you guys to make me laugh :)
Hockey game tonight! GOG!!! I expect all my sisters (except the one who's in T.O. visiting her slightly crazed mother-in-law, of course), will come over to watch... that be six of us, plus our dog... maybe I can convince my mom to order in pizza! Ooer!
Anyway, this is getting pretty long, so I'd better go!
Talk to you later!

A crappity, crap, crap day.

Warning: You've probably had crappier days than this, but please don't hurt me!
Yesterday I gave my book talk... a high 'A', which was good... but then the Oilers lost 5-0.
I had fun watching The Hour, where Barbara was, last night... but then I started to get thinking of all the fun I missed, and how, since they're getting a studio audience next year, I won't get the one-on-one experience I was so looking forward to.
Then, in L.A. class, our teacher let us play a game where everyone writes a sentence of the story (you know, the one that you played at camp when you were ten?), except then this girl that I know put some inappropriate stuff about me in of the boy's stories, and then he read it out to the class. I just played along, but it really upset me.
It was rainy here, which didn't help, and in French class we had another mean sub, who basically kept on telling us how stupid we were, and how we should know more French. NEWSFLASH! With the program at our school, no one's going to be speaking proper French anyday soon (although, the sub was there because my regular French teacher's wife had finally gone into labour, which was awesome)!
I guess when typed out, it doesn't sound that bad, but I felt like I wasn't me... it was like everyone else was ok, but I was kind of in a muffled world, not being able to be cheery.
Anyway... it's the weekend soon. I'm sure I'll cheer up (plus, I have 'Lazy Ramadi' to make me feel better... I swear, I have the whole thing memorized).
I'll just take a break from everything.
See ya!

Lazy what?

Okay, I completely forgot to mention this earlier, but on The Hour tonight there was something that made me laugh SO hard.
So there's that SNL video called 'Lazy Sunday', and then these soldiers in Iraq did a spoof on that called 'Lazy Ramadi'. HILARIOUS! And sadly, so true.
If you haven't already seen it, google it right now, it's worth your time.

My poor Georgie!

Ok, so along with beheading the Prime-Minister, these alleged terrorists were allegedly going to take over my CBC building! I know, Sheilagh, it's not my CBC building, but someday, someday (insert evil laugh here). Okay, maybe not.
Anyway, so I was thinking about my poor Georgie! Innocently coming to work, Bob, too, and then having the CBC taken over! Scary, to say the least! And, yes, I know that these plans haven't been proven to be true, but still... I find it quite frightening!

Anyway... I had a so-so day. I missed the wrap up lunch of Peer Support (which I was really upset about... tear...), but in L.A. class, I did some wicked Anderson-esque improv for Gill's book talk (which was SO much fun!!!)! So, it all evens out.
Better watch some more of the game... I think we're losing (the computer is in a different room than the TV)...
See Ya!

06-06-06! 666! Are we scared? No? Okay, then...

Yesterday= AWFUL! Today= Meh. That's my rating for Monday and Tuesday.
First of all I was so depressed yesterday... Anderson Cooper's book was getting me down (it's possibly one of the best books I've ever read, it's just sad), boys at school (as usual) were being idiots, and Roloson is out of the series (we're DOOMED!!!).
But today was better... not good, but better. School was okay, except for gym. Whoever invented kickball deserves a long and painful death! See, in elementary, these girls would always make fun of me (because I'm not the best player of kickball), and scarred me for life, so that sucked...
Then I got my braces. My mouth still tastes funny, but it doesn't hurt nearly as much as Gill told me it would. I don't really mind them at all.
I'm looking forward to Georgie's 666 show that's on tonight! That should be good!
But then I have to finish this book talk for L.A.. That's part of the "meh" rating for today...
Gotta go, see ya!

Happy Birthday!

If you read the comments for my last post, you'll see that Barbara W. informed me that today was Anderson Cooper's birthday! I responded to the comment, saying that I had no idea, and shortly thereafter, realized that he had mentioned it on Larry King the other night, I'd just completely forgotten (weird how the mind works).
Maybe I bought his book today because of some sub-conscious thought, knowing it was his birthday... or, you know, maybe not.
In any case, HAPPY 39th ANDERSON!!!
And thanks to Barbara (W) for telling/ jogging my memory about it, appreciate it!
See ya later!

Dispatches from the edge

Just got back from the farmers market/ Whyte Ave (or as some crazed people call it now, the copper mile). Got carrots, etc. from the market, and got Anderson Cooper's new book, 'Dispatches From The Edge' at Chapters.
So far I haven't had time to read much of it, but from what I have read, it's really good.
Just relaxing at home now... procrastinating, as usual, by avoiding writing my book report for next week.
Hmmm... what to do, what to do.
I guess I'll just renew library books online, and avoid the calls from some random couple that keep calling me on Skype.
My sister comes home from Alaska tomorrow for the summer, so I'll probably help my mom clean up the house for her arrival.
See ya later!

I forgot to mention...

I forgot to mention that last night on Larry King, Anderson Cooper was on. I love him (in a journalistic way, of course)! Watching him just made me like him even more!
I first got interested in his work after reading about him in a magazine (it was a while ago, I don't remember which one...)
I'd already loved his coverage of Katrina, especially when he got mad at that one senator. They showed that again, yesterday, I was quite looking foward to it (sorry, I love it when politicians like that get what they deserve!).
Another thing that was really cool, was that they showed Anderson when his hair was dark (I've always wanted to see that)!
I'm definitely going to read his new book.
Just wanted to let y'all know.

School dances, fist fights, and other everyday happenings...

Year end school dance today... god, I hate dances. First of all, there are only about six couples in the entire school, so everyone just goes with their best friends, and then you stand around in a stuffy gym having to listen to "You're Beautiful", as those six couples slow dance. Fun fun. Forget radio stations, why don't they put a ban on James Blunt being played at dances?!
Other then that, the day was pretty average... I say that everyday, don't I?!
Well, one other interesting thing happened. Just as I was leaving the dance, two guys from my class started fighting. They fake fight a lot, so I just did the joke "fight, fight" chant for a second, until I realized they were serious (which was weird, cause these guys are usually best friends), and I didn't want to be a bystander (see, I do listen in health class). Anyway, they stopped pretty quick after that, but they're still not getting along... I asked someone what the fight was about, and they said it was because the one guy mispronounced the other guy's name!
Teenage boys are weird (I find the guys at my school often have more mood swings then the girls... odd...).
Anywho, other than that, the day went pretty smoothly. Gotta go, my sister's coming over, and Ellen's on (It's been repeats all week, and it's all new today!).
